What you'll need:
1lb ground beef
1lb hot breakfast sausage (you can use regular it you don't like spicy) ( i used jimmy dean)

1 small green onion (finely diced)
4 garlic cloves (minced)
1 medium onion (finely diced)
4 oz tomato paste
28oz can crushed tomatoes
2/3 cup bbq sauce ( i like to add a spicy bbq sauce and a sweet bbq sauce) (or just use sweet baby rays sweet n spicy bbq sauce)
1 tbsp cocoa powder
1.5 cups lager beer ( i used PBR)
1 cup beef broth
1 tsp of better than bouillon beef base (optional)
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp of honey or sugar
2 cans dark red kidney beans (drained and rinsed)
1 can black beans (drained and rinsed)
Homade Chili Seasoning:
3 tbsp chili powder, 2 tsp garlic powder , 2 tsp onion powder, 2 tsp ground cumin, 1 tsp smoked paprika , 2 tsp kosher salt, 1 tsp black pepper , 1/2 tsp or more of cayenne pepper ( depending on how spicy you like it)
Directions:
On medium high heat , add your beef and breakfast sausage to a pot and brown. Once browned remove and set aside.
Remove the grease thats in the pot using a paper towel.
To that same pot add in oil, once heated add in your veggies and a hefty pinch of salt and sauté until softened, then add in your garlic and sauté until fragrant ( about 30 seconds)
Add the meat back to the pot along with the homemade chili seasonings, crushed tomatoes, bbq sauce, tomato paste & cocoa powder.
Cook for 15 mins on medium stirring often.
Stir in beer , broth, Worcestershire, balsamic vinegar and honey.
Simmer for 1.5 hours stirring frequently allowing the flavors to marry. If chili starts to get too thick add beef broth in 1/4 cup amounts.
Add the beans and cook another 10- 15 minutes. Stirring frequently. Adjust seasonings if necesaary.
Serve and Enjoy.
*I like to serve mine with sour cream, jalapeños, cheddar cheese , chives and cornbread*
