Chili Frito Pie

who else loved eating chili frito pie growing up?! This was my favorite thing to get at sporting events.


I love this Chili recipe so much. You can eat it many different ways. I like to make chili cheese baked potatoes or sweet potatoes, chili with corn bread , chili cheese dogs, irish nachos , and much more.


What you’ll need :

•Fritos

• 1lb ground beef

• 1lb hot breakfast sausage or regular

•1/2 poblano pepper (finely diced + seeded)

• 1 small green bell pepper (finely diced)

• 1 medium onion (finely diced)

• 3-4 garlic cloves (minced)

•4oz tomato paste

•28 oz can crushed tomatoes

•2/3 cup of sweet rays bbq sauce (if you like spicy try the Sweet n spicy one)

• 1 1/2 cups of lager beer (i used pbr)

• 1 cup beef broth

•2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce

• 1tbsp balsamic vinegar

• 1 tbsp honey or sugar

•2 cans dark red kidney beans (rinsed + drained)

•1 can black beans (rinsed + drained)

*Homemade Chili seasoning: 3tbsp chili powder, 2 tsp garlic powder, 2 tsp onion powder, 2tsp ground cumin, 1 tsp smoked paprika, 2tsp kosher salt, 1tsp black pepper

Toppings for Frito pie : sour cream , onions , tomatoes,


Directions:

1. On medium high heat, add your beef and sausage to a dutch oven and brown then remove & set aside.

2. Add your veggies & saute until softened, then add garlic and saute for 30 seconds-1 min.

3. Add meat back in along with the homemade chili seasoning, crushed tomatoes, bbq sauce, tomato paste mix well.

Scrape any bits from the bottom of pot. Cook for about 15 mins on medium stirring often.

4. Stir in beer, broth, Worcestershire, balsamic vinegar and honey.

5. Simmer for 1.5 hrs stirring frequently allowing the flavors to marry, if sauce gets too thick add beef broth or water in 1/4 cup amounts.

6. Add beans and cook another 10-15minutes.

Stirring frequently. Adjust seasoning

7. Cut open bag of Fritos and add shredded cheese, chili and more cheese. Topping with sour cream and onions is a must . Enjoy
